Vietnamese Immigration to Canada in Recent Years
Since 2020, Vietnamese immigration to Canada has continued at a solid pace, driven mainly by economic immigration programs, family sponsorship, and international student pathways. Vietnam ranked among the top 20 source countries in recent years, with Canada admitting around 6,710 Vietnamese as permanent residents in 2024 alone. Numbers were lower in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions before recovering in subsequent years through Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs, and study to permanent residence transitions. Many Vietnamese settle in Ontario, particularly the Greater Toronto Area, as well as in British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec, attracted by economic opportunities, education, established community networks, and quality of life. Economic immigrants form the large majority, supported by family reunification. The Vietnamese-born population in Canada reached approximately 182,095 according to the 2021 Census, while the broader Vietnamese-origin community stood at about 275,530, reflecting continued expansion in the following years.
