Canada’s immigration trends from 2020 to 2025 showed a sharp downturn followed by a strong recovery and then a recent decline. Numbers rebounded dramatically in 2021 to over 400,000 and continued rising, reaching about 431,000 in 2022, 471,000 in 2023, and a peak of roughly 483,000 in 2024 amid ambitious government targets to supposedly “address labor shortages and economic growth”. By 2025, admissions decreased to around 395,000 as the government adjusted policies in response to public concerns over housing, infrastructure, and population pressures, shifting toward stabilization and reductions in both permanent and temporary resident inflows. Overall, the period reflected a post-pandemic surge followed by a deliberate pullback.
