Immigration to Saskatchewan in Recent Years
Since 2020, immigration to Saskatchewan has played a key role in driving population growth, with the province welcoming significantly more newcomers than in the prior decade. Average annual population gains rose from about 11,900 people before 2020 to roughly 19,900 afterward, largely fueled by international migration through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program and other federal streams. The COVID-19 pandemic caused a temporary dip in arrivals around 2020-2021 due to border restrictions, yet overall inflows rebounded strongly in subsequent years as the province targeted skilled workers in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, trades, and services. By the mid-2020s, federal caps on temporary residents and adjustments to nomination allocations led to some quarterly population declines in 2025, even as year-over-year growth continued and the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program maintained targets around 4,700 nominations. Immigrants have helped offset low natural population increase, contributing to economic needs while raising the province’s total population above 1.26 million by late 2025.
