Immigration to Canada: Global Talent Stream

Immigration Canada launches the Global Talent Stream

On June 12, 2017, the Canadian Government launched The Global Talent Stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, a program that provides innovative firms in Canada with a faster way to hire highly skilled foreign talent when Canadians or permanent residents are not available.

The Global Talent Stream is available to two categories of employers:

A. Firms in Canada that are referred to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program’s Global Talent Stream by an Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) Designated Partner.

B. Firms in Canada that need to hire foreign workers for highly skilled in-demand occupations found on ESDC’s Global Talent Occupations List.

Companies applying for workers through the Global Talent Stream now have access to a new streamlined process that provides eligible employers with:

Priority processing. Two-week work permit processing to workers applying from overseas whose employers have been approved.

Work permit exemption for workers (NOC 0 and A). They will be allowed one 15-day work permit-exemption every 6 months, or one 30-day per year.

Researchers will be permitted one 120-day stay every 12 months without requiring a work permit when working on a research project at a publicly-funded degree-granting institution.
