Salvadoran Immigration to Canada in Recent Years
Immigration from El Salvador to Canada has continued at a moderate pace since 2020, supported by a well-established Salvadoran community primarily in Ontario and other urban centers. According to the 2021 Census, the El Salvador-born population in Canada numbered approximately 49,450. Between January 2023 and March 2025 alone, Canada admitted 1,245 permanent residents from El Salvador, with family sponsorship accounting for 445 approvals, humanitarian pathways for 495, and economic streams such as the Provincial Nominee Program and Canadian Experience Class for around 255. Many additional Salvadorans have arrived via study permits, with 745 issued in the same period, often leading to post-graduation work experience and transitions to permanent residency.
