In recent years, Iraqi immigration to Canada has continued to be shaped by ongoing conflict, political instability, and economic challenges in Iraq, driving many to seek better opportunities and safety. According to the 2021 Census, there are 84,130 Iraqis in Canada, with 17,715 having recently immigrated, reflecting a steady influx. Many Iraqis have settled in provinces like Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia, with cities such as Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver being key destinations due to established communities and economic opportunities. Canada’s immigration pathways, including Express Entry, the Provincial Nominee Program, and refugee resettlement programs, have facilitated this migration, particularly for skilled workers and those fleeing persecution. However, Iraqi immigrants often face challenges such as language barriers, unemployment, and social isolation, exacerbated by events like the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted disparities in healthcare access and financial stability. Despite these hurdles, Canada remains a top destination for Iraqis seeking a new beginning, with programs like the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot aiding skilled refugees.
