During this period, immigrants to PEI came from more than 70 countries2.
The top ten source countries of newcomers to PEI were China (51%), Iran (7%), South Korea (5%), UK (4%), the United States of America (3%), the Philippines (3%), Taiwan (3%), India (2%), Bhutan (1.3%) and Syria (0.9%).
With regard to these source countries, the annual number of immigrants from China showed a clear increasing trend between 2006 and 2010. Then, it declined until 2013, and recovered a little bit in 2014. The annual intake from the other nine countries remained about the same during this period.
In 2011, according to the National Household Survey, 7,085 foreign-born people3 resided in Prince Edward Island.
